No rush... I think we're officially in the mulling it over phase :)

I have been brainstorming about such things as highlighting member lists and reviews.
Maybe even compiling a directory of Sci-Fi reviews.... For example, a user could click on a title and read only those Netflix reviews posted by our DorkyCool members; there would be a link to vote 'helpful'. It could be a cool way to form a Sci-Fi posse, help each other out with reviews, and also know we are reading reviews from other people that are real Sci-Fi fans.

Hey Ginger- great to see you here :)

Sorry, I have been pretty busy orchestrating the mass portal idea… but I think it’s at the point where there are enough instructions in place for people to guide themselves.
We have a lot of features we can use exclusively for the Sci-Fi site (most are disabled right now to keep people from using them)
-Forums No netflix Forums should be formed here, it would be redundant.
-Groups No netflix groups should be formed here, it would be redundant.
-Music
-Videos
Additionally we can design custom pages using the ‘Notes’ feature. See this page for Ning Group Creators to get a sense.
Once things get put together a little bit the main page can also be restructured. It will still need to include a basic directory, but it doesn't have to be devoted to the Netflix groups exclusively. But don’t really need to use the ‘Main’ tab as the main page. I was thinking that the Groups tab might be a good sort of 'home' page for the Sci-Fi thing. In fact I think there is a way the rename them. Again, I think you should reference the Ning Group Creators page and probably join, I also joined ‘Ning for Dummies’ cause I am just learning about a lot of this stuff.
I think one of the really cool things about having this dual platform, is that whatever we choose to do with the site, will have a built in base of Netflix users.
What are some of your ideas ? Where would you like to start?

List of movies shows "my guess" star rating instead of "members" rating

Errr HUH?

You want to turn the thing off but will check out Netflix's recommendations while looking at what others rated a film... Yet...

Netflix should make their recommendations and if they can use a better algorithm to do that, I'm all for it.

Which they did (and spent a million bucks on)... Yet...

You don't want programmers, programming your tastes and telling you what you like or don't like.

Best Movies of Decade 2000-2009

a movie where many things blow up

Personally, I see more to it than that.

Also could care less how faithful it was or wasn't to the novel. Novels and movies are different artistic mediums.

It's not the greatest movie of the decade but it, at least, has the courage to tackle (or at least acknowledge) some of the worrying political trends that have arisen during the Bush (and now Obama) administration. I wish more films did that.

And the cinematography was incredible.

Roku NF player in HD

I'd be very surprised if you're not happy with the Roku player.

The Roku forum is a good place to get information about the player, especially for technical issues.

I only use the finest cables that money can buy: MONSTER CABEL.

List of movies shows "my guess" star rating instead of "members" rating

I would love to turn the thing off, for sure! I prefer to just see the voting average of others. I wouldn't care if the algorithm was perfect, in fact the better it is the more I would dislike it. I like the discovery, using my intuition. I don't want programmers, programming my tastes and telling me what I like or don't like. Netflix should make their recommendations and if they can use a better algorithm to do that, I'm all for it. I'll check out their recommendations, look at what others rate…

Best Movies of Decade 2000-2009

I wouldn't say these are my top 10...just what i can think of at the moment.

1. Pan's Labyrinth
2. Atonement
3. Little Miss Sunshine
4. Fantastic Mr. Fox
5. Inglorious Basterds
6. Star Trek
7. Oldboy
8. Martyrs
9. Requiem For a Dream
10. Wall-E

Again not in any order, just what i could think of off the top of my head

Roku NF player in HD

You probably know this already but if you get a Roku player do NOT order the cable bundle pack from Roku. It's too expensive. Try Meritline.com cheap prices with usually free 2-3 day shipping.

Roku NF player in HD

the picture quality is noticeably better than SD TV, which I believe is 480i, but perhaps not quite as sharp as an upconverted DVD.

Thanks for that info. If the PQ is already in between SD TV and an upconverted DVD, then I will probably get the Roku. Things are just going to continue improving anyhow...
