Hey I was just thinking that it would make a lot of sense to copy the MEMBERS DIRECTORY to the annex site.
There would be so much more flexibility; it would not have to be listed all as one thread, you could set it up so if you wanted a member with a name starting with K, you would click on K and go to that page. There is a lot of room for extra features over at the annex site, I think it would sure be more user-friendly...
Anyhoo, that's my latest idea. What do you think?
Wow, i just checked out Cynder's instructions & they are awesome. Go to 'notes', then 'all notes', select 'HTML Code for Group Description'
BTW, do you have any thoughts on other group creator who might like to create a genre-profile?
I would begin by dragging the 'latest activity' box the the left column so that it does not clutter your directory.
Now your directory is going to go in the 'ad widgets'/'text box' that is at the top of the page.
I don't know a lot about code, so I did mine by saving the pics (while viewing them in small form -not from a main page) of the Ning groups onto my computer.
I added them using the add picture tool and 'browse' from my computer.
I typed the name of the groups and used the link tool to their addresses.
For what it is worth, so far Cynder66 has done a much better looking/well designed page than me. She was kind enough to leave instructions on the notes page for how she was able to do this with code.
OK. When you are at the main page, you can see a few examples (Horror Portal, Gay & Lesbian Portal, Sci-Fi Portal) of genre-profiles that are semi-completed. The rest of the genres that are on that list have been worked on at all.
The genre at the bottom of the list XYZ is the one i thought you might like to create.
After looking over the main page and examples of existing genre-profiles, click on the link that says "More Information for group creators" or the profile that says "More information for new members" -they go to the same place.
This is an index of the genres and how the groups fit into them. Of course it is up to the discretion of the genre-profile creator to decide how many other genres (other than the main profile) to list on that page. Cynder66 did Horror only. I chose to include Action, Fantasy, Horror, & Anime on the Sci-Fi Page -because the genres often overlap.
The XYZ genre seems to me, to be one that would include a few other genre lists (perhaps All-Genre Groups, Special Interest)
Check out the new information on the 'More Information' page. It should help with defining the genres.
I have this feeling that the one most suited to your interests would X,Y,Z -because of the social aspects... but i may be wrong....
wowwee (meowmeow here) Is there a way that we can move the latest activity thread lower on the page or to the side?
If it is the first thing on a page, the directory might not be as clear... the user will have to scroll down -and may be confused- thinking the page is a personal profile like the ones on the main site...
I've seen pages done that way, I'm just not sure how to move it.
well, I'm off to bed...
One helpful hint- I saved my code to a word doc. It's a lot of work to make a directory, and found if I made a mistake and didn't know what I'd goofed up it was nice to have a back-up tp cut and paste back in... and for the future to make updates to.
Nice to be working with you again :)
Yes, use your profile as the starting point.
I added some basic instructions on the main page for people who want to get involved.
I didn't know a lot about code, so I just used the link and picture features in the text menu above to create my directory.
I may go to bed soon... it's late here.
You should know that Pooh & Bjm (you can see them as some of the most active members at the Sci-Fi Forum) are like the co-founders of this thing. So you should confer with them about all the changes - they don't even know about the expanding umbrella of sorts!
So just in case a lot of stuff happens while I'm asleep or off-line, be sure to include them :)
Cynder66, and GingersnapGirl have been pretty involved too...
AnimeGirl and The Omnipotent Mr. Tinkles have expressed interest...
Cyder66 can give you instructions on making your own badge...
